The Petro Gazz Angels sealed the No. 4 seed in Pool A in the PVL on Tour with a win over Choco Mucho.
The Petro Gazz Angels stopped the bleeding as they dumped the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in four sets, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17, to wrap up the preliminary round in the PVL on Tour at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur on Tuesday night.
The Angels, who were swept in back-to-back 3-set losses in Ilagan City earlier this month, rebounded with a crucial run against Choco Mucho whom they sent reeling to a fourth straight loss in the preseason tournament.
After finding themselves down by three, 12-15, midway through Set 4, the Angels finished the set on a 13-2 run to blow Choco Mucho out of the water and clinch the No. 4 seed, setting up a clash with the Akari Chargers for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Ranya Musa provided key points while Myla Pablo continued her steady contributions on offense as they keyed the run punctuated by an attack by Pablo which finished off Choco Mucho at match point.
But it was Nicole Tiamzon who proved instrumental throughout the match as she finished with 16 points built off of 15 attacks and one block to clinch Player of the Game honors.
Petro Gazz thus ushered in a new era as they got the victory in their first game after the sudden exit of Japanese coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
Choco Mucho, meanwhile, will be heading into the play-in round on a slump but will be eager to get things going as they face the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in the knockout match on Tuesday, August 5, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
