The final day of preliminaries of the PVL on Tour has tremendous implications for the next phase of the competition.
The PVL on Tour makes its final stop of the preliminary round at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur on Tuesday, and the high-stakes double header will have a lot of implications for what happens next in the next round of the preseason tiff.
In the opening game at 4:00 p.m., the Chery Tiggo Crossovers face a win to get in situation against the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles. Touting a 3-1 slate, Chery Tiggo can clinch an outright quarterfinals berth in Pool B and skip the knockout play-in rounds beginning this weekend.
Cher Tiggoy, who failed to clinch the quarters last time out against Creamline, can exact sweet revenge with win, as a victory for the Crossovers will also send the Cool Smashers crashing down to the play-in where they face a win-or-go-home condition.
Meanwhile, ZUS Coffee is already out of the running for an outright quarterfinals berth, but still stand to gain position should the Thunderbelles play spoiler against Chery Tiggo.
A win by ZUS Coffee will set them up for a battle for position against Chery Tiggo — depending on how many sets it takes them to win the match.
Creamline will be taking the other outright quarterfinals berth if ZUS Coffee is successful against the Crossovers.
Among ZUS Coffee’s possible opponents in the next round include Group A teams Petro Gazz and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, who will be facing off against each other as the curtain closer on the preliminary round.
Though out of contention for the outright quarterfinals slot, Petro Gazz and Choco Mucho will also be fighting each other for position — with the winner of the match claiming the 4-seed in their group.
Both matches on Tuesday in Ilocos Sur will make the post-season situation more clearer — currently, no final matchups have yet to be determined with final rankings to be decided after the two matches.
Regardless of the results, one thing is for certain: the last day of preliminaries in the PVL on Tour will bring high-octane action in Candon City.
