Unseen Wins is a book by former UAAP basketball commissioner Xavy Nunag that is geared towards helping parents and coaches in youth sports.
Let the kids have fun in sports and be that constant support from the sidelines.
That's what former UAAP basketball commissioner Xavy Nunag is sharing in his book geared towards helping parents and coaches in youth sports.
Unseen Wins: For Parents and Coaches Who Still Believe in Doing What’s Right is a book which focuses on changing the mindset of a child’s support group, shifting the focus from solely winning to a more holistic view of a kid’s overall development.
“I did not write this book because I have all the answers. I wrote it because I have seen what happens when we get it wrong,” said Nunag.
Unseen Wins explores common tropes for parents and coaches, most of whom have had skewed views when it comes to sports especially in a time where stats, highlights, and accolades seem to take precedence over character building.
Nunag details here how sports benefits a child’s growth, urging the adults to allow young ones to learn independence in the face of adversities instead of being the cause of those unwanted pressures – all while remaining as a constant presence for these young athletes.
He also touches upon the importance of building values, enjoying the journey through the process, and most importantly, the foundation that these kids get through sports which will benefit them in the long run.
“Sports should be fun. So protect their joy,” Nunag said.
“So please, stay close, stay steady, stay involved. They don’t need to be perfect, they just need you. Be the constant.”
