The winning habit continues for Michelle Cobb and the Akari Chargers in the PVL Reinforced Conference.
No sister revenge.
The Akari Chargers shook off an opening-set stumble to hammer out a 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18 victory against sister team Nxled Chameleons to move one game away from completing a group stage sweep in the PVL Reinforced Conference on August 15, Thursday at the Philsports Arena, Pasig.
Michelle Cobb steered the smooth Chargers offense all-game long with nine points and 18 excellent sets, enough to earn the Player of the Game Honors.
“It’s a team effort. Lahat kasi gustong may mangyari,” an emotional Cobb said in the post-game interview.
Oly Okaro once again dropped a 30-point outing, with Ivy Lacsina adding 19 markers. Cobb, Grethcel Soltones, and Camille Victoria combined for 25 points.
In their first showdown since the mega swap of players and coaches in the offseason, the Chargers asserted their dominance after a first set stumble, putting the pedal to the metal in the last three frames.
They become the only undefeated team left standing in the import-laden conference, and are one-and-a-half games ahead of the second-running PLDT High Speed Hitters and the Cignal HD Spikers.
Standing in the way of a commanding group play sweep and the Chargers are the Farm Fresh Foxies, who turned back the Capital1 Solar Spikers in the opening game.
After an error-prone opening set, Akari regained their bearings in the second and third sets to build a 2-1 set lead.
Meanwhile, the Chameleons will end their preliminary campaign against the Cignal HD Spikers on Tuesday, August 20 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
