Up next for MVP Brooke and her Angels: the Premier Volleyball League.
Petro Gazz delivered a resounding statement in the PNVF Champions League finale Saturday night.
Leaning on the offensive brilliance of Brooke Van Sickle and Jonah Sabete, the Angels orchestrated a straight-set drubbing of the Cignal HD Spikers to capture the title.
It was a dominant performance, to say the least. Not to mention that Petro Gazz also belted Chery Tiggo a similar kind of whipping in the semifinal round just one day prior.
But as impressive as the Angels were, Van Sickle believes that Petro Gazz is yet to reach its full potential.
"I do believe that we’re a force to be reckoned with moving forward. We’re slowly proving ourselves and we’re building confidence slowly as each day goes by. We’re building that team chemistry and everything," the Filipino-American outside hitter noted.
"There’s still more to come of what we’re working up. We’ve kind of touched the surface on it, but there’s a lot of cool things that Coach Koji [Tsuzurabara] wants to improve that we’re gonna still work on."
While Van Sickle is well aware that Petro Gazz must not lose focus in its preparations for the PVL All-Filipino Conference, she and the rest of the Angels could not help but bask in the glory of their recent success.
After all, Petro Gazz did not just secure a championship, but also saw three of its players receive individual awards.
Van Sickle earned the PNVF Most Valuable Player award and shared the Best Outside Hitter recognition with Sabete. Remy Palma also accepted a plum of her own as one of the two Best Middle Blockers in the tournament.
"It’s just the cherry-on-top type of finish. I’m very proud of my entire team," shared the 24-year-old Van Sickle, who would then deflect credit to the rest of the Angels.
"Credit the coaching staff coming up with game plans that were super helpful. Individual awards are cool but I cannot have done that without all my teammates. They were super helpful the entire time, you know, having my back and being there for them, vice versa. I’m very proud of everyone."
