They didn’t want to take any chances.
With three teams holding 3-1 win-loss records prior to Tuesday’s games, a bloodbath was expected in Pool B as the fight for the semifinal slots at the PVL Invitational Conference heats up.
The F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, however, managed to make the battle have a little less blood, so to speak, after the yellow-clad squad swept the Foton Tornadoes, 25-18, 25-18, 25-14, to gain the first of two semis berths.
Majoy Baron said they knew they needed a sweep to clinch, so they fought for it—not wanting to take any chances.
“We know this is our ticket to semis. Kailangan straight sets talaga,” said Baron in the postgame interview at the PhilSports Arena.
The middle blocker, who earned Player of the Game honors, came out gunning to lead the Cargo Movers’ attack by pouring in 12 points off 9 kills, a block, and 2 aces.
Aggression, the former La Salle Lady Spiker admits, was really part of the game plan. It came out, perhaps as the team also wanted to bounce back from its painful, five-setter loss against the Petro Gazz Angels.
“Coming into this game, ‘yung mindset talaga namin is to be aggressive. ‘Yung sense of urgency nandoon, and lumabas naman.”
As they now move on to the single round robin semifinals, F2 Logistics is looking to continue their rise as they hope to hit their peak as the games continue to matter more.
“You can expect na mas magiging aggressive pa kami since every day nag-i-improve kami as a team and we’re working dun sa mga weaknesses namin. Coming into the semis, kailangan mas pa-peak pa kami,” Baron explained.
Two more semifinal slots remain up for grabs. And it will all be decided today, Tuesday.
The Cignal HD Spikers and Choco Mucho Flying Titans will play for the last Pool B ticket, while the Chery Tiggo Crossovers and the PLDT High Speed Hitters are set to duke it out to join the Creamline Cool Smashers as Pool A semifinalists.
