Greatness demands something equally great.
Often, what fans see is the finished product—the polished game, the larger-than-life persona, the social media personality.
What fans rarely get to see is the grind that comes with daring to be great, the sacrifices required to be a star, and the hard work needed to stay a star.
It turns out, Aby Maraño of the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers has been keeping receipts, but not that she is doing it deliberately. Rather those receipts are stamped in her hands in the form of calluses—the after-effect of years upon years of grinding, of lifting iron day after day after day to get stronger, faster, better.
And on Tuesday night, the two-time UAAP women’s volleyball MVP posted a couple of Instagram Stories showing those tortured hands for all the world to see. They still look beautiful, mind you. Flawless even—except for the string of calluses that line both of Maraño’s palms.
Maraño shows her palms in this IG Story, with her “grind buddy” Kim Kiana Dy pointing to the kalyo that has developed:

In this one, Maraño explains point blank how she got those calluses:

Those who regularly lift and go to the gym know all too well what Maraño is talking about in her IG Stories. It takes not only consistent trips to the gym to develop that type of kalyo, but also intense, go-hard workouts—the kind where one’s physical limits are tested to the hilt. In other words, you don’t develop kalyo like that if you are not pushing yourself and lifting heavy.
That is the grind that made Maraño a star, one who can show off swag even in the most crucial of moments. It is also the hard work and sacrifice that fans rarely see, if ever. But trust that Maraño will keep doing it as long as she can. It is the price to pay for daring to be great.
