Save for the second frame, it was a dominant performance for PLDT.
Complacency prevented the PLDT High Speed Hitters from sweeping the Akari Chargers on Tuesday night.
That’s what setter Rhea Dimaculangan said in the aftermath of a 25-14, 21-25, 25-12, 25-15 win over the Chargers in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
It was a dominant performance for the High Speed Hitters. Well, except in the second set.
“Siguro nung second set masyado kaming nag-relax kasi masyado kami naging masaya nung first set. Parang nakalimutan na naming mag-focus kaunti sa game,” Dimaculangan said.
Coach Rald Ricafort couldn't agree more.
“Yung sinabi ko sa kanila after ng first set, na magiging kalaban namin complacency. Nag-dilang anghel, natuloy nga. Nag-relax mga players. Puro errors,” Ricafort said.
But such growing pains are only normal for a team still in the process of embracing a new system under Ricafort.
“Normal naman siguro. Siguro 'yung chemistry at maturity hindi pa sobrang taas. Pero given naman siya. Nire-remind lang sila. After ng second set, yun binanggit ko, reminders na focus lang, hindi pwedeng up and down. Kailangan tuloy-tuloy,” he said.
Although still adjusting, the High Speed Hitters have managed to string together four straight victories for a 4-1 win-loss record.
“Siguro hindi pa talaga naka-adjust. Pero malapit na. Kaunti na lang,” Dimaculangan said.
