Powell and the Dragons take Game 6, but who will have the last laugh?
There is no debate — this season's PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals is one of the most drama-filled series in the history of the league, both inside and outside the court.
From complaints about officiating to fines served and imports reactivated, this "dayo versus taga-barangay" affair between the Bay Area Dragons and crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings is living up to its billing.
It's only fitting that things escalate to an all-or-nothing game after a hotly contested Game 6, where both teams' imports went nuts.
Myles Powell came back from a month-long injury break and balled like he didn't skip a single beat.
The 25-year-old guard exploded with 29 points on 5-for-11 shooting from three to keep his personal PBA record unblemished. The Dragons are undefeated in nine games with Powell playing.
Newly minted Best Import of the Conference Justin Brownlee on the other hand almost single handedly carries Ginebra to a W behind a Jordan-esque 37 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, 4 steals, and 4 blocks performance.
While there is a lot of animosity among fans, Brownlee, who played all but 38.7 seconds of Game 6, has nothing but praise for Bay Area after the game.
"I wish we could’ve closed it out, but the Bay Area, man, they showed their heart. They got a great heart and they fought really hard," Brownlee said in a post game interview.
Brownlee also gave a nod to Powell.
"We got to give a lot of credit to Myles Powell. He came out, played well and hit really big shots."
Powell reciprocated Brownlee's praises with his own via a tweet.
"That’s love JB you a real one and got game!" Powell said.
The American guard finished by saying, "real recognizes real!"
Don't expect these guys to be all mushy on Game 7 though, because there's going to be a war come Sunday night.
