Jayson David has been part of the regular rotation of Ginebra in its ongoing PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup semifinals against San Miguel.

David has also ensured he is making the most out of it, especially in the Gin Kings 105-91 win in Game 4 that evened the series Sunday night, Jan. 11.

Against the Beermen, the athletic guard logged an all-around outing of 12 points, three rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks.

“In-earn ko naman ‘tong mga minutes na ibinigay sa'kin. At saka nagagamit na ako, so ibibigay ko na ang best ko,” David told One Sports.

His recent contributions did not go unnoticed, with coach Tim Cone even comparing his game to that of Golden State ace Jimmy Butler.

“He’s so dynamic. I always tell him he reminds me of Jimmy Butler. The kind of game he plays, he has a wide body, can play bigger than he is and very versatile,” said Cone.

“He’s not as good as Jimmy Butler, but relative to our league, he plays a very similar type of game.”

The 28-year-old David was grateful.

“Thankful lang akong nabibigyan na ako ng minutes ngayon. Ginagawa ko lang ang best ko. Ginagawa ko lang kung ano ang makatutulong sa team namin,” David said.

While he has come a long way since being part of Ginebra's 3x3 program, David knows he still has his work cut out for him.

“Nandoon na pero malayo pa,” David said.

“Focus lang sa kung paano kami makapapasok sa Finals.”

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
