Scottie Thompson went straight from dishing out the game-winning assist on the court to accompanying his wife as she delivered their third baby in a hospital in Muntinlupa.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone bared this just moments after the Gin Kings hammered out a 101-99 nipping of Blackwater in the mainer of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup Friday, May 23.

“He (Thompson) told me just now that his wife is delivering as we speak,” Cone said in the post-match presser at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

It appeared that Thompson's wife, Jinky, did not tell the Ginebra do-it-all guard that she was already in the hospital as the game was ongoing.

“They didn't tell him during the game. They waited till the game was over, and they told him immediately after the game that his wife is in the hospital, delivering,” said Cone.

“So he's not going to be in the dugout. He literally was from there [on the court], he left and went to his car. He's on his way to the hospital.”

Cone added that he likewise learned about the situation only after the match.

“We didn't know until the end of the game. It was nice of his wife not to insist on telling him to come right away. They told him right after the game was over and that's when he found out, right after the game was over,” Cone said.

Before leaving for the hospital, Thompson facilitated the most important play of the night. He fed Aguilar who swished the baseline jumper over Bradwyn Guinto, sealing the win for the Gin Kings.

Thompson finished with 18 points, four rebounds, 10 assists and a steal as Ginebra upped its record to 5-2.
