The Phoenix Fuel Masters finally get the spark they need for a breakthrough in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup, ending the NorthPort Batang Pier's win streak at 5-0.
The Phoenix Fuel Masters notched their first win of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup, defeating the previously unbeaten NorthPort Batang Pier, 115-109, on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Phoenix, now 1-4, led by as much as 14 points behind a dominant performance from import Donovan Smith, who posted 32 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks.
Jason Perkins added 24 points, while RJ Jazul, named Player of the Game, chipped in 14 points and five assists, plus three triples.
NorthPort, who dropped to 5-1, leaned on Kadeem Jack’s 28 points and Arvin Tolentino’s 23, but Phoenix controlled the paint, outscoring NorthPort 60-36.
The Fuel Masters also outperformed in ball movement with 31 assists to the Batang Pier’s 17.
Despite NorthPort’s edge in points off turnovers (25-19) and fastbreak points (20-7), Phoenix’s interior dominance and composure sealed their breakthrough victory.
