Donna Vekic imposed her might against Lin Zhu in a 6-4, 6-3 win in the Philippine Women’s Open quarterfinals at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center Thursday night, Jan. 29.
The 29-year-old Croatian thus set up a semifinal clash with Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova.
Vekic, a Paris Olympics silver medalist, crawl back from 2-3 down and took the next three games of the second set.
The former world No. 17 sustained her fine play in the ninth game, where she broke free from a 30-all knot after Zhu’s forehand went long.
The former Alex Eala foe then shut the door on her Chinese counterpart with a strong forehand return that grazed the line.
Earlier, Prozorova recovered from a slow start to eke out a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Sofia Costoulas also at center court.
