The 17-time WWE world champion put over Gunther in his last-ever match, tapping out to the Ring General to end Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC.
Amid chants of “Don’t Give Up,” Cena lost by submission after Gunther put the living legend through a rigorous series of sleeper holds.
The loss ended Cena’s 23-year WWE career, and giving Gunther the ammo for what should be a gargantuan push moving forward.
Since his main roster debut in 2002, Cena amassed the aforementioned 17 world titles which are a professional wrestling record.
Throughout his retirement tour, Cena also won the Intercontinental Championship, completing an elusive Grand Slam.
