Chris Newsome and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson are joining hands in the EASL for Meralco. So far, that partnership has translated to two wins in four games.
To say that Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is a big boost for Meralco in the ongoing 2025-26 East Asia Super League is actually an understatement.
Just ask Bolts skipper Chris Newsome.
“The thing I love about RHJ is the intensity that he brings," said Newsome.
"It’s not just in the games. It’s actually in practices where you see he’s the most effective because he motivates the guys around him."

Against Macau, the ex-Brooklyn Nets player posted 34 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

With RHJ in charge, Meralco netted its second win in four outings in Group B.
“He makes his teammates go even harder. Whenever you feel like you can’t go anymore, RHJ is going to be one of those guys who are going to push you, to get the most out of you," said Newsome.

Newsome is thus relishing the opportunity to team up with the athletic guard, whom he always plays against in the PBA.
“I think it’s been refreshing to have him with the Meralco Bolts and just bringing that type of competitive spirit to our organization. He sees that everybody here wants to compete, so he fits right into what we do," said Newsome.
The praises did not stop there.
“He’s a great team guy. He’s not just the guy who is going out there and get his [points],” Newsome said.
“But he helps to attract the defense and makes it easier for a lot of the other guys. We've just got to do our job and start knocking down our shots."
Now, both Newsome and Hollis-Jefferson will hope this partnership translates to success in the regional league, where a Philippine representative has yet to make a splash.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
