Alex Eala advanced in both singles and doubles at the ASB Classic, reaching the singles quarterfinals and the women’s doubles semifinals with partner Iva Jovic in Auckland.
Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala and partner Iva Jovic powered into the women’s doubles semifinals of the 2026 ASB Classic, advancing by walkover against Jesika Maleckova and Renata Zarazua in Auckland.
The walkover came on a busy and productive day for Eala, who earlier booked her spot in the singles quarterfinals with a dominant Round of 16 victory, continuing her strong start to the WTA 250 event serving as a warm-up for next week’s Australian Open.
Eala and Jovic had set the tone for their doubles run with a headline-grabbing opening-round win, dismantling former Grand Slam champions Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1.
Awaiting them in the semifinals is a stiff challenge against the third-seeded Chinese tandem of Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan, who booked their spot after a 6-4, 1-6, 10-5 win over Isabelle Haverlag and Maia Lumsden.
