Still yet to drop a set, Alex Eala shook off a brief rain delay to secure a quarterfinal win and book a semifinal clash with familiar rival Lulu Sun at the 2025 Jingshan Open.
Rain briefly stalled play, but not Alex Eala’s unwavering resolve.
The Filipina tennis star is through to the 2025 Jingshan Open semifinals following a 6-4, 6-1 quarterfinal victory against local bet Jia-Jing Lu on Friday, September 26 (PH time).
Eala led 2-1 in the first set when rain caused a 10-minute delay.
When play resumed, Lu capitalized with three straight games for a 4-2 lead, but the 20-year-old tennis sensation answered by sweeping the last four to claim the set in 45 minutes.
After both players split the first two games of the second salvo, Eala put the pedal to the metal and took the final five games in a tournament where she is yet to drop a set.
For a place in the final, Eala is on track to face familiar rival Lulu Sun, who beat Russia’s Elena Pridankina, 6-2, 6-4 in their quarterfinal showdown.
The New Zealand native earlier defeated the Filipina ace in the final round of Wimbledon qualifying last year.
