Meralco is coming into the PBA Season 50 with a fresh look.

The Bolts will be donning new black threads with blue linings and a fresh logo in time for the team’s 15th year in the league.

Meralco skipper Chris Newsome is rocking with the change.

“It’s definitely a new look for us. Never have done black jerseys. You can tell they’re really lightening things up with the blue,” said Newsome during the PBA Media Day on Friday, September 26.

“Maybe in a blue eagle, I think it’s fitting. I think it’s bagay for me to have blue and a little bit of orange,” he added with a smile.

The change symbolizes recommitment to Meralco’s identity, the team said in a statement.

“The Bolts unveiled a new logo as a symbol to recharge, reenergize, and recommit to their team identity that is built on hardwork, togetherness, fighting spirit, sportsmanship, and the pursuit of excellence,” the team said.

Not a few people already compared the jerseys to NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

But Newsome didn’t mind.

After all, the Thunder are the defending champions, something Meralco aspires to be this conference.

“A lot of people say this kinda remind them of OKC. I don’t mind getting that comparison ‘cause they won the NBA championship last year,” he said.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
