Australia shifted into high gear in the second period on the way to a masterful 92-48 win over Iran in the FIBA Asia Cup semifinals on Sunday, Aug. 17 (Manila time).
The Boomers thus booked a return trip to the Finals for the third straight FIBA Asia Cup, facing China for the title.
Australia did everything right in the second quarter, where the Boomers put up a 24-9 assault and led by 22 points at the break, 51-29.
The Boomers were never in any danger of squandering that lead since then, cruising to victory as they only allowed Iran to score 19 points in the second half.
Jack McVeigh led Australia with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal, and a block.
Wessels contributed 16 points and four rebounds, while William Hickey added 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
Meanwhile, Sina Vahedi was the only Iranian who finished in double figures with 11 points.
Mobin Sheikhi put up eight points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Matin Aghajanpour and Salar Monji combined for 12 points for Iran.
