Carl Tamayo is on the brink of history as he looks to lead the Changwon LG Sakers to the 2024–25 KBL championship in Game 4 of the Finals against the Seoul SK Knights on Sunday, May 11.

The 24-year-old Filipino forward continued his stellar play in Game 3, dropping 18 points, six rebounds, and a steal to help the LG Sakers dominate the SK Knights, 80-63, and take a commanding 3-0 series lead at home on Friday.

Tamayo, who is averaging 23.0 points across the Finals—including 27 in Game 2 and a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double in Game 1—has been a sensational for Changwon and now stands just one win away from securing his second overseas championship.

He previously won the 2023 Japan B.LEAGUE title with the Ryukyu Golden Kings, albeit on a limited role.

Tamayo also has a chance to become the next Filipino to raise the KBL trophy since Rhenz Abando accomplished the feat with Anyang in 2023.

He won’t be alone in the hunt for the sweep. Egyptian import Assem Marei was also a force in Game 3, racking up 20 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks, while Yang Junseok dished out eight assists and contributed 14 points to fuel the Changwon offense.

Meanwhile, the Seoul SK Knights struggled to find answers. Juan Gomez de Liaño, who impressed with 19 points in Game 2, was limited to just 2 points in Game 3. Jameel Warney led Seoul with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Kim Sun-Hyung added 14.

With the championship within reach, the Sakers and Tamayo look to complete the sweep and cement their legacy when Game 4 tips off at 1:00 p.m. (Manila time).
