Preparations are in the last stretch for the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship as the “Set Na Natin ‘To Trophy and Mascot Tour” wrapped up at Cagayan de Oro over the weekend, completing a three-week journey across the Philippines.

Alas Pilipinas pool member Elijah Kim and former volleyball player turned actor Dylan Ytorralde led the festivities which also featured mascots Hataw and Koolog.

The tour ended with a bang among volleyball enthusiasts at the SM Downtown CDO.

A couple of weeks left before game day on September 12 at the Mall of Asia Arena, where Alas Pilipinas ushers in the action against Tunisia, Philippine National Volleyball Federation and Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon “Tats” Suzara spoke highly of the success of the events leading to the Worlds.

“We’re 12 days to Day 1 and we appreciate the warm and raucous reception for the world championship in these three-city tour,” said Suzara.

Before CDO, the tour went to Laoag, Ilocos Norte and Cebu to bring the energy of the high-level tournament to Filipinos across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Also present in the final leg of the tour were PNVF Mindanao Charter Member Alexander Adeva, head of the region’s volleyball association, Cagayan de Oro City Sports Office OIC Abby Cris Waga, and Department of Tourism Region 10 director Marie Elaine Unchuan.

The 32-nation world championship is expected to bring elite volleyball to the Philippines starting with Alas vs Tunisia which will also feature an opening ceremony headlined by K-Pop group BOYNEXTDOOR and local talent Karencitta.

The country’s hosting is expected to bring in fans to watch the game live through purchasing their tickets at the official website of the tournament.
