The PGJC-Navy Sea Lions picked up their second consecutive victory in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the expense of the Maverick Hard Hitters.
Joeven Dela Vega and the PGJC-Navy Sea Lions drubbed the Maverick Hard Hitters in straight sets, 25-20, 25-11, 25-20, to pick up their second straight win in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the PhilSports Arena Wednesday.
Dela Vega emerged as the leading scorer with 15 points off 13 attacks, a block, and an ace for the Sea Lions, who hiked to a 2-1 record.
Peter Quiel and John Jacob towered above the net as the two accounted for half of the team’s 10 blocks to finish with 10 markers apiece.
PGJC-Navy captain Greg Dolor made his presence felt as well with nine points and six digs, while Wilbert Sapida and Marvin Villanueva contributed six and four markers, respectively.
The Sea Lions seized control right from the opening whistle before ramming the floodgates open in the second frame, where they posted the largest lead of the match.
Maverick did not go down without a fight though, as they seized a 16-14 lead midway through the third set. However, Dela Vega and Dolor connived to tie the count at 18 before a string of errors from the Hard Hitters and a 4-1 closing run pushed the Sea Lions past the finish line.
The Sea Lions dominated the Hard Hitters on all fronts, putting up a 42-25 attack differential and a 10-2 block disparity.
Maverick captain Razzel Palisoc paced the losing side with seven points as his side remained winless after two outings.
PGJC-Navy aims to sustain momentum when it faces Richmarc Sports 3B on April 5, Friday.
Maverick, on the other hand, seeks for a breakthrough when it collides with D’Navigators Iloilo on April 3, Wednesday.
