The Savouge Aesthetics Spin Doctors took down the VNS-Nasty Griffins in straight sets, 26-24, 25-18, 25-17, for a triumphant start in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Friday.
The Spin Doctors had to overcome a nip-and-tuck opening salvo before dissecting the error-plagued Griffins en route to the win column.
Nonwel Sanama shouldered the lion's share of the offense with 15 points, laced with six excellent digs, as he emerged as the lone double-digit scorer for Savouge.
Charlee Magpayo contributed seven markers, while captain Jhun Senoron and John Diwa pitched in six and five points, respectively.
The Griffins delivered a sluggish performance, coughing out over a set's worth of errors with 31.
Miscues proved to be the biggest difference as the Spin Doctors only had 19 in the win.
Kenneth Culabat's all-around effort of 12 points, 13 excellent receptions, and six excellent digs for VNS-Nasty went down the drain.
The stinging loss also spoiled the Griffins' debut of Wewe Medina, who poured in a double-double of 11 points and 12 excellent receptions.
Savouge will aim to build on its breakthrough and pull off an upset when it faces the Jau Umandal-led Cignal on March 20, Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
On the other hand, VNS-Nasty will look to barge into the winner's circle when it collides with newcomer Criss Cross on March 22, Friday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
