Anthony Edwards showed off during USA’s run in the FIBA World Cup.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star, who was included in the FIBA World Cup All-Star Five, was definitely coach Steve Kerr’s go-to guy in the tournament.

Recently, Edwards revealed how Kerr changed his work ethic—but not during their time in Team USA, rather before he was even drafted in the NBA.

Edwards remembered the time he crossed paths with Kerr for his pre-2020 NBA Draft training session with the Golden State Warriors, who owned the second overall pick. The fiery forward still remembers how Kerr conveyed to him that his level of effort wasn't up to par.

"I thought I was working hard," Edwards said in a video posted by the NBA on X. "When he came, I was going through drills and he kept stopping them, like, 'That's all you got? That's all you got?' And I'm like, 'Bruh, I'm going hard as you want me to go. What you want me to do? I'm sweating crazy.'"

Edwards went on with his story where he had dinner with Kerr and then-Warriors president Bob Myers. He said they repeated the same message, even going so far as to say that if they had the first overall pick, they wouldn't have chosen Edwards.

"He's like, 'Man, you've got to see Steph [Curry], KD [Kevin Durant], and Klay [Thompson] work out,'" said Edwards, who was eventually selected by the Timberwolves as the top overall pick.

"They still was continuously telling me, 'You didn't work hard enough. If we had the No. 1 pick, we wouldn't take you.' And I was just like, 'Damn, that's crazy,” he added.

But while some may question the words said by Kerr and Myers, Edwards chose to make that his motivation to even work harder in the gym.

"Me and my trainer riding home after dinner and we're just talking like we got to pick it up. I don't know how, I don't know what we got to do, but we got to pick it up. After that. I became a madman at the gym,” said Edwards.

Now entering his fourth season in the NBA, Edwards has become a bona fide star for the Timberwolves.

There’s also no telling what he can achieve, given the talent he possesses and the determination he has to be the best. Fans can probably thank Kerr for that.
