June Mar Fajardo struggled to make his presence felt in Game 1 of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup semifinals against Ginebra. It turned out, Fajardo suffered a calf injury.
As soon as he landed after scooping a rebound in the fourth period, June Mar Fajardo visibly grimaced in pain.
It turned out, the San Miguel star is nursing a right calf injury in their 71-73 loss to Ginebra in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup semifinals opener on Wednesday, June 25.
Despite the pain, the eight-time MVP opted to see the game through and even had the chance to snatch the game from Ginebra, but Japeth Aguilar blocked his hook in the dying seconds.
The 6-foot-10 slotman wound up with six points, 19 rebounds, and two assists.
Fajardo will undero an ultrasound on Thursday, June 26 to determine the severity of the injury.
“Medyo masakit eh. Pero 'yun nga, positive ako, na sana hindi seryoso,” an exhausted Fajardo said.
Game 2 is set on Friday, June 27, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Fajardo is hopeful Fajardo will be at full strength by then as the Beermen look to even the best-of-seven series.
“Bounce back na lang kami next game. Mahabang series naman to,” he said.
