Gilas Pilipinas Youth suffered their worst finish yet in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup.

The Nationals faltered against Bahrain, 79-66, in their qualification for the quarterfinal match at the MBank Arena in Mongolia Thursday, Sept. 4.

Since 2009, the youth team has not missed the Last Eight of the continental meet.

Bahrain broke free in the third period after an 18-3 assault that turned a 44-all deadlock into a comfortable 62-47 lead.

But there is just no quit in Gilas.

Gilas closed in on Bahrain, 66-72, after back-to-back baskets by Luis Pascual and Brian Orca with 1:41 remaining.

But that is the last time the Nationals would make a field goal as they crashed out of the competition.
