Josh Ybañez, UST outlast Ateneo in UAAP five-set thriller | Highlights

The UST Golden Spikers rallied from a 1-2 set deficit to outlast the Ateneo Blue Eagles in a five-set marathon, 19-25, 26-24, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11, during the UAAP Season 88 men's volleyball tournament on Wednesday, February 25. The victory marked UST’s second straight win, improving their record to 2-1 and moving them into a tie for second place with National University, while sending Ateneo to their second loss in three games.

Two-time league MVP Josh Ybañez delivered a masterful performance, exploding for 29 points on 27 attacks and two aces, while also anchoring the floor defense with 19-of-27 excellent receptions. Ybañez drew support from JJ Macam, who tallied 12 points, and Dux Yambao, who orchestrated the offense with 24 excellent sets. Despite a 26-point outing from Ateneo's Aimar Okeke and 17 markers from Jian Salarzon, the Blue Eagles were undone by 39 unforced errors, allowing the Golden Spikers to complete the comeback after two hours and 16 minutes of play.
