Stepping into the shoes of a historic import is never easy, but for Capital1’s new reinforcement Oleksandra Bytsenko, it’s an opportunity she’s ready to embrace.

The 29-year-old outside hitter enters the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference with confidence and calm, embracing the process of blending into the Solar Spikers.

“We had friendly games... and day by day we feel each other and play together as a team,” Bytsenko told One Sports. “So, let's see. It's the last three days and we will see the results.”

Capital1’s previous import, Marina Tushova, set the bar high last season after a string of historic performances, which included a PVL record 50 points in the quarterfinals against the Cignal HD Spikers.

But Bytsenko, who was backed by Tushova herself, isn’t fazed at all by the possible comparisons. Instead, they fuel her motivation to do even better for the Solar Spikers.

“I'm here to show myself and bring to the team more power,” she said. “Every year is different for me. Let's see. Capital1 is a pretty young team.”

Having played in Japan’s SV.League with Aranmare Yamagata, Bytsenko brings international experience and a composed approach to a youthful Capital1 core, headlined by 2025 no. 1 pick Bella Belen and 2024 no. 2 pick Leila Cruz.

Her presence also provides new coach Jorge De Brito with another scoring option and a steady, veteran voice on the court.

Despite limited time to prepare, the Ukrainian ace remains optimistic about what’s ahead.

“It’s fine,” she said. “We start to feel each other more day by day, and I believe in my team. We can do good results this season.”

Capital1 will open its campaign against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on Tuesday, October 7, at the Ynares Center Montalban.
