Despite missing key stars, the PLDT High Speed Hitters dominated the retooled Farm Fresh Foxies to open their PVL on Tour campaign on a positive note.
The PLDT High Speed Hitters are off to a strong start in the PVL on Tour after sweeping Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-18, 25-21, 28-26, on Tuesday, July 1, at the PlayTime FilOil Centre in San Juan.
Despite missing star spiker Savi Davison, along with Dell Palomata and rookie Alleiah Malaluan, the High Speed Hitters flexed their muscle against the retooled Foxies, who began their campaign under new head coach Alessandro Lodi.
In control for most of the match, PLDT saw themselves playing catch up against Farm Fresh in the third set up until the 19-23 mark.
There, the High Speed Hitters suddenly came alive with an emphatic 5-0 run.
Kiesha Bedonia cut the lead to a single point after back-to-back aces. Shiela Kiseo would eventually tie the game at 23-all after an off-the-block hit.
Jolina Dela Cruz’s attack would sail wide, pushing PLDT to match point before Rizza Cruz’s kill block tied the game at 24-all.
In the extended set, the High Speed Hitters reached match point at 27-26 after Lorene Toring’s attack sailed wide. Mika Reyes would go on to seal the victory after a kill block on Caitlin Viray.
Bedonia led the way for PLDT with 14 points on 10 attacks, two blocks, and two service aces. Mika Reyes added 10 markers.
Trisha Tubu paced Farm Fresh with 14 points, while Cruz had 10 in the loss.
Up next for the High Speed Hitters will be the Petro Gazz Angels and Choco Mucho Flying Titans on July 12-13 at the Capital Arena in Ilagan City.
