La Salle’s Baby Jyne Soreño, Julyana Tolentino, and Jessa Ordiales look to carry their collegiate discipline and drive to the professional stage as they join the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft.
Baby Jyne Soreño, Julyana Tolentino, and Jessa Ordiales are ready to turn the page from their collegiate careers as they officially leap the professional ranks via the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft.
The three La Salle standouts, products of the renowned system of 11-time UAAP champion coach Ramil de Jesus, are looking forward to testing themselves outside their comfort zone—and possibly facing or teaming up with former La Salle stars now shining in the league.
Soreño, who spent her formative years training alongside the likes of Ara Galang and Majoy Baron, says finally being in the same league as them is something she and her teammates have long looked forward to.
“Since senior high school po kami sa La Salle, magkakasama po kaming nakiki-training sa kanila. Now, sa PVL, nandito na po sila,” Soreno told reporters during the PVL Rookie Draft Combine. “Kung papalarin man na magkasama kami or [mapunta sa ibang team], okay na yun.”
Soreno, who described her move to the PVL as a continuation of her passion for volleyball, also shared the biggest thing she’s bringing with her from La Salle.
“Additional din siguro sa mga tinuturo ni coach Ramil sa’min, 'yung disiplina sa sarili. Dala-dala rin po namin 'yun kung saan man kami [mapunta].”
For setter Julyana Tolentino, who is set to finish her academic journey, admitted that entering the draft felt like the natural next step.
“Since graduating na po ako soon, I think it’s time na rin po to move sa next [chapter] ng career ko,” she said.
Tolentino, who looks up to La Salle’s line of successful setters such as Kim Fajardo, Julia Coronel, and Marionne Alba, says she isn’t feeling the pressure.
“It’s more of a challenge. Hopefully, I can make a name for myself in the PVL like them.”
Known for her versatility, she credited the La Salle program for shaping her into a well-rounded playmaker:
"Coming from coach Ramil’s system, talagang tinuruan niya kami like every position," said Tolentino. "Kung anuman po 'yung mapuntahan naming team, du’n talaga namin ma-release 'yung potential namin and mag-grow din po kami sa kanila."
Ordiales echoed the excitement of learning under different systems and styles after years of being molded under De Jesus.
“Sa PVL po, iba naman po yung mga coaches. Nilo-look forward din po namin na marami po kaming matutunan sa kanila,” she said.
With Soreno, Tolentino, Ordiales, and Alleiah Malaluan in the draft pool, La Salle once again reinforces its status as one of the most consistent talent pipelines to the PVL.
The PVL draft will be conducted on June 8 at 7 p.m.. It will be aired live on One Sports, One Sports+, and the Pilipinas Live app.
