Eya Laure finished with team-high 19 points.
Cess Robles may have scored very little compared to Eya Laure, but she made a world of difference when the going got tough for the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Tuesday at a packed PhilSports Arena.
Robles entered only late in the fourth set, but made her presence felt in the deciding frame as the Crossovers got their first win in the PVL Invitational Conference at the expense of the Akari Chargers, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-7.
Robles finished with 4 big points as Chery Tiggo improved to 1-1.
Robles scored twice from the left to give Chery Tiggo a 10-5 lead in the deciding set. But Akari refused to just roll over and die and made things more interesting with back-to-back kills to inch closer.
That's when the former NU Lady Bulldog stepped up to the plate once again, putting the Crossovers at match point before an attack error cost the Chargers the game.
This type of performance from Robles is actually no longer a surprise. After all, she is a UAAP champion and a former Finals MVP.
In the end, though, it was rookie Eya Laure who topscored for the team with 19 points, including back-to-back points to give Chery Tiggo a scintillating 4-1 start right at the very first set.
Her sister, EJ, also came up big with 15 points while Mylene Paat and Pauline Gaston had 11 points each.
Chery Tiggo will look to make it back-to-back wins on Thursday, July 13, when it takes on the winless Gerflor Defenders.
