There’s no other recourse now but to regroup and try harder to get better for Ginebra.
Scottie Thompson offered no excuses in the aftermath of a foiled comeback in Ginebra’s 86-89 loss to NLEX on Wednesday, May 7.
In true never-say-die fashion, the Gin Kings dug deep and clawed back from a 17-point third quarter hole to make the game interesting.
Ultimately, Ginebra fell short and slid to a pedestrian 2-2 win-loss record early in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup.

“For us, there’s no excuse. We’re down, shoulders down kasi talo kami,” said Thompson, who finished with 20 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a block.
Asked whether the fatigue of getting to back-to-back gruelling Finals this season is beginning to take a toll, the do-it-all guard responded in the negative.
“There’s no excuse sa amin, the teams na mga hindi nakapag-finals. For sure, they really prepared well sa offseason. We’re trying to make habol na lang sa conference,” he said.
Despite the so-so act recently, the former PBA MVP is beaming with optimism the Gin Kings will get their bearings going in no time.
“But mahaba pa 'yung conference. We still have time to bawi and to jell again,” said Thompson, recently added to the league’s 50 Greatest Players list.
“I think for us right now, move on and prepare for our next, especially out of town game. Hardest game din sa elimination.”
