RJ Jazul and RR Garcia agreed to stay for one more year with Phoenix, days before the Fuel Masters' PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup debut against NorthPort.
In its desire to keep the core that reached the semifinals of the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup, Phoenix re-signed veteran guards RJ Jazul and RR Garcia.
The team announced these developments on their Facebook page on Wednesday, March 6.
Jazul will continue to be the longest-tenured Fuel Master as he agreed to a one-year deal with the team, according to Phoenix team manager Paolo Bugia.
In 17 games last conference, the 37-year-old guard averaged 9.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, but his best game came in the semifinals against Magnolia.
Jazul fired 14 of his 17 points, including three straight three-pointers in a searing 14-4 rally that helped the Fuel Masters claim their lone win against the Hotshots in the best-of-five series.
Meanwhile, Garcia, the former UAAP MVP with Far Eastern University, also signed a one-year extension despite seeing little action to norm a measly 2.7 points.
This augurs well for the Jamike Jarin-led Fuel Masters, who will see action for the first time in the ongoing Philippine Cup on Friday.
Phoenix will take on retooled NorthPort in the 4:30pm game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
