Barangay Ginebra San Miguel big man Christian Standhardinger has returned to his vlogging ways, providing fans an inside scoop on game days.
And, on his game day vlog on Friday against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, CStan was at it again, giving fans an inside look into Ginebra’s “we can’t lose back-to-back games” mindset, shouting out Yeng Guiao for his coaching acumen, and formally welcoming back Jamie Malonzo into the active lineup.
The Fil-German center also shared his unique pregame meal routine, and it actually involves not eating it. Instead, he gives the packed meal to his teammate, Raymond Aguilar, the seldom-used big man who’s always ready whenever his number is called by Tim Cone.
“This is what I do with my pregame meal,” Standhardinger says while walking towards Aguilar. “Every game, I have to give my pregame meal to this man.”
Aguilar, ever the comic, receives Standhardinger’s timely delivery and tells the MVP candidate that he’s giving the meal “to the less fortunate.”
“No, no, no,” a grinning Standhardinger replies. “He’s eating it, and he’s mad at me if I don’t give it. ‘Cause I don’t eat, so I have to give it to him.”
Standhardinger then gives the reasoning behind this dynamic—and it may or may not be true.
“You know in prison, you get the biggest guy, the most vicious, aggressive guy, and you give him something to protect you. This is what I’m doing. So, whoever messes with me in the game, wait ‘till Raymond gets something.
Not that CStan needs a bodyguard, right? But it certainly helps to have a fellow big to do some of the dirty work when things go sideways in the game.
Of course, nothing untoward happened in Ginebra’s 107-102 victory over Rain or Shine on Friday. That doesn’t mean Standhardinger will stop giving his pregame meals to his frontcourt buddy.
