As expected, Team USA officially booked its ticket to the 2023 FIBA World Cup after defeating Uruguay 88-77 in the Americas Qualifiers on Friday.

Former NBA guard Langston Galloway led the way for the US with 21 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter.

With the victory, Team USA improved to a 9-2 record in the tournament. The US joined Canada as the first teams from the Americas to qualify for the FIBA World Cup this August.

The Philippines, as one of the hosts of the tournament, was given the chance to pick any team that will play in Manila. And it was no surprise that USA was selected, given the hordes of NBA-crazy Filipinos.

USA is expected to field NBA stars in the FIBA World Cup, which could include the likes of Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant, who mentioned to One Sports that playing for Team USA again was on his mind. The squad would like to avenge its embarrassing seventh place finish in the last edition in 2019.

Team USA, led by coach Steve Kerr and new managing director Grant Hill, will aim for its sixth FIBA World Cup championship.
