Alex Eala falls to Camila Osorio in QF, exits Philippine Women’s Open

Philippine bet Alex Eala stumbled to Camila Osorio, 6-4, 6-4, in the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center Thursday night, Jan. 29.

Eala, the second seed in the tournament, found herself trailing 3-4 after a crucial break by Osorio midway through the first set. 

This opened the door for the Colombian to consolidate her lead on her serve.

Eala held at love afterwards to stay close at 4-5, but Osorio was able to build an early 30-love lead in the next game to eventually claim the opening set, 6-4.

In a tight second-set battle, Eala couldn't hold her serve in a crucial ninth game, which gave Osorio the 5-4 lead and eventually, the win.

Eala thus exited the first-ever Philippine Women’s Open in the quarterfinals as Osorio sets up a semifinal clash against Argentine Solana Sierra slated Friday, Jan. 30.

Matches begin at 3 p.m. on the penultimate day of the tournament, with fan favorite Donna Vekic facing Tatiana Prozorova in the opening game before Osorio collides with Sierra for a spot in the final.

Fil-American Sabrina Santamaria ends the day with a finals clash in women’s doubles, partnering with Quinn Gleason as they tangle with Eudice Chong and Liang En-shou.
