Stefi Aludo and Tenny Madis came out with a good effort against Japanese foes Mana Ayukawa and Kanako Morisaki in their doubles opener at the Philippine Women’s Open.
The Philippines’ Stefi Aludo and Tenny Madis made their exit from the doubles draw of the Philippine Women's Open, losing to Japanese foes Mana Ayukawa and Kanako Morisaki in the Round of 16, 6-2, 6-2, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday.
Aludo and Madis fought valiantly and showed promise in the opening set, when they went toe-to-toe with their more experienced foes for an early 2-all count.
But Ayukawa and Morisaki capitalized on their superior net play and found a hole in Aludo and Madis’ game.
The Japanese netters exploited this multiple times across the match, which resulted in a lopsided 6-2 victory in Set 1.
During the second set, Aludo and Madis once again displayed tremendous effort to keep things close, 2-3.
Despite the loss, it was a fruitful WTA debut for both Filipinas, with Aludo seeing action in the singles qualifying while Madis matched up with Thailand's Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the main draw.
