Coast-to-coast: Paul George turns back the clock for Sixers; Clippers continue scorching run

Paul George put up a vintage showing in the latest Sixers win as the Pistons survived a late Nuggets scare, and the Clippers extended their hot streak in a packed seven-game NBA midweek slate.

VINTAGE PG-13 SHOWS UP; CLIPPERS STAY RED-HOT  

  • Philadelphia 76ers (25-21) def. Milwaukee Bucks (18-27), 139-122: Paul George turned back the clock with a vintage performance, erupting for 32 points on nine three-pointers as the 76ers dominated the undermanned Bucks.

  • LA Clippers (22-24) def. Utah Jazz (15-32), 115-103: Kawhi Leonard poured in 21 points while James Harden added a 16-point, 10-assist double-double, leading the Clippers past the Jazz for their ninth win in 10 games.

With the victory, LA has surged to 16-3 over their last 19 outings, closing in to just one game behind the Trail Blazers for the West’s ninth seed.

  • Detroit Pistons (34-11) def. Denver Nuggets (31-16), 109-107: Twice in the final moments, the Nuggets had a shot at overtime, but Jamal Murray’s missed free throws allowed the Pistons to escape with a heart-pounding win in Denver.

  • Phoenix Suns (28-19) def. Brooklyn Nets (12-33), 106-102: With a combined 53 points from Mark Williams and Dillon Brooks, the Suns held off the Nets late to end a two-game losing streak.

WIZARDS SNAP NINE-GAME SKID; THUNDER RESTORE ORDER AT HOME

  • Washington Wizards (11-34) def. Portland Trail Blazers (23-25), 115-11: Alex Sarr put on a dominant two-way performance as the Wizards finally snapped their nine-game losing skid after fending off the Trail Blazers.

The former top overall pick posted 29 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks to lead Washington's first home victory over Portland in nine years. 

  • OKC Thunder (38-10) def. New Orleans Pelicans (12-37), 104-95: Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander poured in 29 points for his 118th straight 20-point game, steering the Thunder back on track after consecutive home losses.

  • New York Knicks (28-18) def. Sacramento Kings (12-36), 103-87: Jalen Brunson and the Knicks picked up their third successive win after losing four straight, piling more woes on the Kings side who now lost six straight.
