Day 2 of the Philippine Women’s Open main draw is severely delayed as rain pours down on the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Action has been delayed for the second day of the Philippine Women’s Open main draw due to weather, with rain coming down at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center on Tuesday.
Matches were initially scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m., but the set was delayed to 3:30 p.m. because of the rain.
Moments before fans were admitted to the stands after organizers attempted to dry the wet courts, rain started again, further delaying the start to the matches to 4:45 p.m.
A total of 11 matches are slated to happen on Tuesday, with top-seed Tatjana Maria going up against Leolia Jeanjean in the opening game at center court.
The Philippines’ own Kaye Emana is scheduled to face off against Tatiana Prozorova in court 1 to open the action there.
Filipina pairs Elizabeth Abarquez and Rovie Baulete, along with Tennielle Madis and Stefi Aludo were scheduled to play doubles matches, but were subsequently cancelled because of the rain delay.
Other matches on Tuesday include the match between compatriots Nao Hibino and Himeno Sakatsume of Japan, where the winner will move on to Alex Eala in the Round of 16.
