The Philippines is poised to make tennis history as talks progress to host the first-ever WTA 125 Philippine Women's Open in 2026.
The Philippines is on the cusp of tennis history, with discussions underway to host the inaugural WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open, targeted for January 26 to February 1, 2026.
The move, coupled with talks to open the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts to the public, signals a bold push to bring world-class tennis opportunities closer to Filipino athletes and fans.
The vision was laid out during a landmark meeting on September 29, 2025, between Navotas Mayor and PHILTA Secretary-General John Rey Tiangco and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick Gregorio.
Tiangco expressed optimism that the partnership with the PSC could spark a breakthrough for WTA tennis in the country.
“Our partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission paves the way for a new chapter in Philippine tennis,” said Tiangco.
“From pursuing the hosting of the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open and ITF J30 to exploring the opening of Rizal Memorial courts to the public and building the Philippine Tennis Center in New Clark City, we are bringing world-class opportunities closer to home."
“Tennis transforms lives, and with PSC’s support, we are determined to help Filipinos rise and shine on the world stage," he added.
Gregorio echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the initiative is about much more than just staging a tournament.
“This is more than a tournament. This is about giving our athletes the chance to test themselves against the world’s best, inspiring the next generation, and placing the Philippines firmly on the global tennis map,” Gregorio bared.
“The greatest champions began their journeys on public courts. By opening access and investing in world-class events, we are giving Filipinos the same chance to dream big and achieve greatness,” he added.
The timing for the possible event ideal, as Filipina tennis star Alex Eala continues her steady rise in the world rankings, claiming her first WTA crown during the Guadalajara Open which is a similar WTA 125 joust.

Hosting a WTA 125 event in Manila would not only showcase international stars, but also provide homegrown talents like Eala the opportunity to compete on home soil in front of a passionate Filipino crowd.
Beyond the WTA talks, the Philippines is already confirmed to host the International Tennis Federation (ITF) J30 Tournament from late November to December 7, 2025, a competition that brings together promising juniors aged 13 to 18 from across Asia and beyond.
