Ricky Hatton, former light welterweight and welterweight champion of the world, was found dead at his home in Greater Manchester. He was 46 years old.
Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton has passed away Sunday, September 14.
The “Hitman” was 46 years old.
According to reports, Hatton was found dead at his home in Greater Manchester.
Hatton compiled a professional boxing record of 45 wins (32 KOs) with three losses.
He was a former WBA, IBF, IBO, and The Ring light welterweight champion. Hatton was also WBA welterweight champion.
In 2005, Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu to win the IBF and The Ring light welterweight championships. Later that year, he stopped Carlos Maussa in the 9th round to add the WBA title.
Hatton was named 2005 Fighter of the Year by The Ring Magazine for unifying the belts.
Two of Hatton's losses came against pound-for-pound greats in Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, both by stoppage.
Hatton’s round-2 knockout from Pacquiao in 2009 put his career on hold. He had a comeback fight in 2012, another knockout loss to Vyacheslav Senchenko.
In 2016, Hatton revealed that he tried to kill himself on multiple occasions in his battle with depression.
Nevertheless, his death is not being treated as “suspicious” in a report citing the Greater Manchester Police.
Hatton was initially slated to come back from retirement this year, scheduled for a December fight in Dubai.
