TOKYO, Japan — Marathoner Eduard Flores is all set for the Tokyo Speed Race at the Meiji Jingu Gaien on Saturday here.
He will represent the Philippines in the Tokyo Speed Race, but before his 10km elite race he tried on the METASPEED™ Sky, METASPEED™ Edge, and METASPEED™ Ray - the newest release of ASICS.
“I am excited to race and hoping to be in good condition to perform well,” he said.
Without disclosing his competition shoes, Flores gave his review of each pair.
“For me, the METASPEED™ Sky is ideal for long-distance races like a full marathon because the midfoot area is wider compared to the METASPEED™ Edge, providing more stability over longer distances,” he said.
“I find the METASPEED™ Edge more suitable for shorter distances or speed races, such as 5K to 10K distance. It feels more aggressive and is designed for quick response on the ground,” he added.
“The METASPEED™ Ray Tokyo is noticeably lighter than both the Sky and the Edge. All three shoes are excellent in terms of stability, balance, and bounce. It just depends on the distance you're focusing on,” he continued. “Personally, I prefer the METASPEED™ Sky since I'm currently focusing on full marathons.”
Aside from Flores, runners and content creators from all over the world had a blast trying on the newest technology in running shoes during the official product launch at the Urban Sports Park on a rainy Friday afternoon.
During the official reveal headed by Yasuhito Hirota, chairman and CEO of ASICS, guests got to try the shoes.
Content creator Ayn Bernos enjoyed her experience especially with the METASPEED™ Sky.
“It was really nice to see the breakdown of how they made it, being in Japan and having the product development team explaining how it was created,” said Bernos.
“As an everyday runner, I really like running in the METASPEED™ Sky because it has more stability, super lightweight, and feels very powerful," she added.
127 athletes from 36 countries will compete in the elite category (10km and 5km), while 2,750 participants will join the mass races - family run (1km), group race (5km), and half marathon in the Tokyo Speed Race.
