Pacman wants to do so many things even at the age of 45.
It appears eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao is open to just about anything—be it an exhibition match or an actual, meaningful bout.
Already, the fighting pride of Saranggani is supposedly booked for an exhibition fight against Buakaw Banchamek of Thailand in a boxing showcase billed “The Match of Legend” to be held this coming January.
Then, only recently, the 45-year-old Pacquiao revealed his fervent desire to represent the Philippines in the 2024 Paris Olympics to fulfill what he considers a lifelong dream—to win a gold for the country.
Now, it appears the Pacman is looking at another exhibition, this time against a familiar foe—all while reiterating his willingness to climb up the squared circle for a professional bout.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Pacquiao confirmed the swirling rumors that an exhibition with Floyd Mayweather is in the works and that he is still “active.”
“I'm still active and training. I have an exhibition match in December in Japan. We are working on it, the opponent. We're working with [Floyd] Mayweather. But we're still working on it,” Pacquiao told Fight Hub TV founder Marcos Villegas, who caught up with Pacquiao in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where several of boxing’s biggest names ever converged for the "Battle of the Baddest" between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury.
Pacquiao even challenged lightweight kingpin Gervonta Davis—sort of.
“Gervonta Davis is a good fighter. He's a good fighter, yeah,” Pacquiao said of Tank. “If he comes up to 147, we can fight—145, maybe. That's not a problem for me. I am an experienced fighter.”
The Pacman last fought professionally in August 2021, when he lost via decision to Yordenis Ugas. Then, in December 2022, he took on South Korean martial artist DK Yoo in an exhibition match. But Pacquiao always been firm in his desire to continue his career in prizefighting, with MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons going on record that the Filipino icon “is ready to beat someone up.”
Whether he gets the chance to actually do that is anyone’s guess.
