Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will be out indefinitely with an Achilles injury, dealing a huge blow to Meralco's EASL campaign and also to TNT's upcoming title defenses in the PBA's 50th season.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson’s injury from Meralco’s EASL win against Macau turned out to be a lot worse.
In a statement released on Monday, the Bolts confirm that RHJ suffered a right Achilles tendon rupture, which will sideline the champion import indefinitely.
Hollis-Jefferson got hurt in the third quarter of the Bolts’ eventual 93-91 win over the Black Bears, tweaking his right leg after a bad landing.
“Rondae is a great person and has been an incredible teammate,” the Meralco statement read.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and our focus now is on his immediate treatment and recovery.”
Hollis-Jefferson was on loan to Meralco from TNT and played in all five EASL games for the Bolts, guiding the team to a 3-2 record with a three-game winning streak.
His injury now leaves Meralco down one world import for the rest its EASL campaign, and it also leaves TNT without its resident import for the PBA’s 50th season.
The Tropang 5G are defending champions in both the Commissioner’s Cup and Governors’ Cup, winning both titles last season with Hollis-Jefferson in front.
