A silver in the World Athletics Championship, a membership in the 6.0 meters club, a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics, an Asian Games gold medal, and a new continental record to boot, this year has been a blast for Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena.
And on Thursday, the year just became brighter for the number two pole vaulter in the world.
It marked the third anniversary of the 27-year-old Obiena and her girlfriend, German track and field athlete Caroline Joyeux.
Obiena sent a sweet message to Joyeux via an Instagram Story.
"Happy anniversary, my love. Though you gotta wait an hour more there but here, it's already the day. Love you, cutie," he posted, along with the date October 19, 2020.
Three years strong! No wonder EJ is so inspired.
Last July, Joyeux, who competes in triple jump, finished eighth in the European Athletics U23 Championships, and the 22-year-old is already looking forward to leaping to the senior level.
We can only wonder how competitive Obiena and Joyeux can get when they argue about something as trivial as picking a restaurant.
Their anniversary is clearly a positive note for Obiena after being accused of doping by the wife of an opposing pole vaulter.
Can't wait to witness more leaps and bounds from this track and field couple!
