The future is bright for the Gilas Pilipinas Women!
With the women's team coming off an inspiring silver medal win at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is not letting up on the gas pedal as it shifts focus to the under-16 girls squad.
On Tuesday, Fil-Am Nation select, who works with the SBP in reaching out to Filipino-American talents in the US, uploaded on Instagram snippets of the U16 pool's training session at the Life Pacific University gym in San Dimas, California.
Gilas Women head coach Pat Aquino has also been working hard from this side of the globe, as his staff will get busy on Saturday, May 27, when they open local tryouts for the U16 pool.
Ladies who aspire to join must be born in the year 2007, or will turn 16 before June 20, 2023. The auditions will take place at the Aero Center in Quezon City.
The women’s team has definitely been on the rise as of late. They won gold in the 2019 and 2021 editions of the SEA Games. And in this year's regional meet, they brought home a respectable silver, dropping only one game in the tournament.
Last year, Gilas Women U16 finished third in the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship in Jordan.
