Alas Pilipinas U16 swept Hong Kong to move one win away from securing a historic fifth-place finish in the AVC Asian Women’s U16 Championship.
Alas Pilipinas U16 moved a step closer to a historic finish after steamrolling Hong Kong, 25-20, 25-19, 25-10, in the classification round of the 2nd AVC Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball Championship in Amman, Jordan on Friday, November 11.
The young Filipinas were in full control from start to finish, showcasing sharper ball movement and a much steadier offensive rhythm against the Hong Kong squad.
This was a strong bounce-back performance for Alas after their five-set heartbreaker against Thailand just a day prior.
Team captain Xyz Rayco once again led the charge, firing 23 points built on 19 kills, two blocks, and two aces in another all-around performance.
Cristina Gale continued her steady tournament run, adding 11 points, while Jhenica Sadia and Resty Jane Olaguir chipped in six points apiece.
The victory keeps the Philippines in the hunt for its best-ever finish in the continental tournament.
Alas will now await the winner of the Thailand–Uzbekistan clash for the 5th place match, where a victory would secure a historic milestone for the program.
