FIVB President Fabio Azevedo praised the Philippines' preparations for the 2025 Men’s Volleyball World Championship, highlighting the country's passion for volleyball and commitment to innovation.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo is optimistic about the Philippines’ preparations for the upcoming 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, expressing confidence in the country’s capabilities as a host and highlighting plans to leverage its vibrant digital culture to grow the sport.
Azevedo is currently in the country for a two-day visit, engaging with local volleyball stakeholders ahead of the tournament scheduled from September 12 to 28, 2025.
The global volleyball chief praised the leadership of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and its track record of hosting international events, such as the VNL.
“In terms of arenas, venues, hotels, transport—everything is great,” Azevedo said. “But what gives us absolute comfort is the huge experience of these people here, the leadership of Filipino volleyball. President Suzara and his team have already proven their capacity to deliver.”

The Philippines is set to host 32 national teams for the men’s volleyball showcase, which Azevedo says will dwarf the scope of previous local tournaments. He also stressed how the country’s passionate and digital-savvy youth can play a major role in promoting volleyball stars to a global audience.
“You have this power here in the country—a young generation promoting stars and values,” he said. “Filipinos love the sport, and not just their own national team. Japan, USA, Brazil, Poland—your fans follow them. It's a hot fan base, and they are keen for content.”

Azevedo shared that one of the major innovations for the global tournament will be a fan zone concept inspired by the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Interactive areas around the venue will be set up to engage fans of all ages, including play areas for kids and exhibition games with international volleyball ambassadors.
“The innovation is making the sport more accessible,” Azevedo noted. “We want our athletes to be seen, to be experienced everywhere, whether on the court or through digital content. We’re investing massively in content production to make our stars even more relevant globally.”
Azevedo also teased that visiting teams will be encouraged to immerse themselves in local culture, enjoying Filipino food, hospitality, and tourism, giving the World Championship a distinctly Filipino flair.
With the country’s passionate volleyball community, proven hosting experience, and growing influence in global sports media, Azevedo believes the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship could set a new standard in the sport’s international staging.
