Things are looking bright for NU guard Dindy Medina after she recently reached a breakthrough with the Lady Bulldogs amid their title defense in UAAP Season 88, where she was one of the key performers in NU’s second round win over La Salle.

In a win that clinched their Final Four spot, Medina played a highly efficient game, going 5-of-7 from the field to finish with 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist in a 97-67 victory over the Lady Archers on Sunday.

Following a tough stretch in her career, Medina was grateful to finally get things back on track with NU.

“Siyempre po, masaya po. Nandito ako ngayon. Masaya talaga ako. Nakalaro po ulit ako kasi after three surgeries na nangyari sa akin, sobrang saya po. Hindi ko pa expect na magpunta ako dito ngayon.” Medina said after the match.

Formerly playing with Adamson, Medina’s promising rookie year was put to a halt with an ACL in UAAP Season 85. She impressed then-NU head coach Aris Dimaunahan when she scored 28 points on the mighty Lady Bulldogs, albeit in a 100-66 loss for the Lady Falcons.

Then when she transferred to NU then made a debut for the Jhocson squad in Season 87, it was cut short and only lasted a couple of games after she was once again injured.

Now fit and healthy, Medina hopes to lead her teammates to victory.

Pushing through adversity

More than a physical hurdle, Medina has had to go through the mental challenge of coming back from those two devastating injuries.

But with her sights set on the crown, and with a team to back her up through each step of the way, Medina has been able to get back on her feet and contribute to wins for the back-to-back championship-seeking Lady Bulldogs.

“Lagi lang ako sinasabihan ng mga coaches na patuloy lang ako, sipagan ko lang lagi. Hindi naman mawawala yung tiwala nila sa akin.” said Medina.

“Kaya parang, tinutuloy ko lang kasi alam kong nandiyan sila, sinusuportahan nila ako.” she continued.

Medina hopes to continue pushing the issue when NU returns to face the Adamson Lady Falcons on Saturday, November 8, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
