UP Fighting Maroons big Favour Onoh is taking her talents to the US NCAA with a new opportunity after previously playing in the UAAP.
The UP Women’s Basketball Team will be seeing a key cog leave the program as big Favour Onoh is headed to the US to play with NCAA Division 1 side Oklahoma State University after playing one season with the Fighting Maroons.
Onoh, who missed out in UAAP Season 87 due to injury, was pivotal in UP’s run to the Final Four in Season 86, while also pushing eventual champions UST to two games in the semifinals.
During that year, Onoh posted averages of 11 points, 14.9 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 assists, giving the Fighting Maroons their first postseason berth since 2008.
After her fruitful career with UP, Onoh said that she remains grateful for all the opportunities that were afforded to her.
“I would not be able to have this kind of opportunity without UP and the skills I learned not just in basketball, but also in life," she said.
"I believe OSU will allow me to develop more. Aside from giving good education just like UP, it will also give me a better opportunity to play professionally."
The 6-foot-4 Nigerian is the latest Fighting Maroon headed overseas for bigger opportunities.
UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development (UP OASD) Director Bo Perasol stood behind Onoh as she pursued bigger opportunities.
“We are all proud of Favour and we will all continue supporting her. At the same time, nakakabilib na in just a few years, may ganitong talent nang na-produce ang WBT natin," he said.
The 19-year-old is slated to head to Stillwater, Oklahoma on June 2 to begin training with the OSU Cowgirls for the Big 12 Tournament later in the year.
“I'm super excited to play in the NCAA because it will help me gain experience and knowledge. It's one step to my goal of playing professionally," said Onoh.
